Billy Mayerl (b. May 31, 1902, Tottenham Court Road, London, England – d. March 25, 1959, Beaconsville, Michigan, USA) was a child piano prodigy, joined the Southampton Hotel Band in 1921 where he recorded 37 piano rolls of popular tunes of the 20s, recorded “Eskimo Shivers” in the late 20s, and founded the School of Syncopation in 1926. He led a group, “Mayerl’s Claviers,” which was joindd by Marian McPartland under the name Marian Page in 1938.
