Arthur Marshall (b. November 20, 1881, Saline County, Missouri, USA – d. August 18, 1968, Kansas City, Missouri, USA) was fifteen when Scott Joplin took residence with his family. Marshall worked at the Maple Leaf Club, studied music at the Methodist George R. Smith College for Negroes, travelled with McCabe’s Minstrels for two years, played at the St. Louis World’s Fair in 1904, performed at Tom Turpin’s Rosebud Club and for the Scott Joplin Drama Company. Later on, he played in Chicago at the Wintergarden, Lewis’s Saloon, and Eureka Saloon and the La Salle Hotel. He returned to St. Louis and played in Tom Turpin’s Eureka, then at the Moonshine Gardens.
He collaborated with Scott Joplin on two numbers: “Swipesy Cake Walk,” and “The Lily Queen.“
